When working in retirement plan marketing at Vanguard, I researched and wrote blogs for Vanguard executives’ bylines, which were posted on Vanguard’s institutional website. Since I was unable to meet with this executive prior to the blog deadline, I researched her corporate profile and learned that she raises chickens as a hobby. I used this information to personalize the blog.

The audience for this blog was plan sponsors for corporate retirement plans. This audience is typically inundated with investment planning information—much of it very dry. The approach here was to grab attention with a creative illustration and focus on conveying one clear message.

While in executive communications at Vanguard, I strategized topics and crafted posts for executives’ LinkedIn pages.

I researched and wrote this keynote speech for a Vanguard executive addressing a financial industry audience. I used the speaker’s passion for professional soccer to showcase his personality and voice.

At Nationwide Financial I worked in regulatory and shareholder communications. This is a welcome brochure for new investors in Nationwide Funds.

While at Nationwide Financial I was the ghostwriter for the president, which included writing all of the letters to shareholders for annual reports. To capture his voice, I met with him regularly to gain insights into his personality. I kept a notebook with phrases he used in conversations.

As a freelancer, I have worked on many projects for SEI Investments. This brochure was written for the financial advisor audience. It provides information that advisors can pass on to their clients to explain the benefits of Charitable Lead Trusts.

While at Conrail, I researched and wrote a variety of feature articles for The Inside Track, the freight carrier’s employee magazine. Employee communications was a bridge between management and Conrail’s mostly union workers. I got to ride a freight train around the famed Horseshoe Curve in Altoona, PA and even pulled the whistle!
